Download all raw portrait assets (faces, bodies/bustups, outfits, dummy files).

Note that these are the raw, un-resized files extracted directly from the game files.


Notes:

  • The raw DDS files, when extracted via QuickBMS, seem to be shrunk and squished, weirdly enough. Probably because of file/dimension size restrictions, and they're stretched out for proper in the actual game. I don't know if this is how the files in the game actually are (and there's a script for the cutscenes that resizes them to the correct sizing) or if it's the fault of the extraction script. Either way, this means that I have to manually resize portraits to the correct ratio so they don't look squished. Just keep that in mind when you download the files and you see that they're a teensy bit off in terms of pixel-to-pixel match.

  • Will fill out table as I progress. I'm doing these manually, so forgive the speed. I've put up mostly the male characters first because they generally have less portraits and DLC costumes than the female ones.

  • Will put up a link to the raw files, dummy textures and all, later on.

  • Will upload a ZIP containing all the PSDs, and another ZIP containing all the PNGs once I finish those.




Process:

  1. Navigate to the folder where Fate/Extella PC's resources are. (Should be "Fate Extella/resource/target/win/pack/mount/retail".)

  2. Grab the Fate/Extella QuickBMS resource extraction script from Nexus Mods.

  3. Run QuickBMS, run the downloaded script, and select the .pk file(s) to extract. That would be "archive.pk", which contains all the assets in the base game. The "dlc[number].pk" files are, you guessed it, DLC costumes.
    To quote the description on NexusMods: "The .pk file being used must either still be in it's default directory when the script is used. If not, then all of the .pkh and .pfs files in the default directory must be copied/moved wherever the .pk files are for extraction."

  4. Wait and hope.

  5. The output should be a new resource folder. The character portrait textures (as well as other things like HUD textures) are DDS files, located in "resource/target/win/texture", and tend to be 1024x1024. The "texture12" folder seems to be lower res and smaller sized textures, probably for lower quality settings. These tend to be 256x256.

  6. Convert the DDS files to PNGs with the software of your choice. I use XnConvert.

  7. Enjoy. Note that some of these may be squished in terms of aspect ratio (see Notes above).
